The article compares two methods for mapping landslide scars in the Mascarada River basin (RS): manual mapping, by vectorization over multispectral imagery, and semi-automated mapping based on the Modified Soil Adjusted Vegetation Index 2 with a minimum slope threshold. The methods diverged significantly in all analyzed characteristics, especially the morphometric ones, mainly due to the slope threshold imposed in the semi-automated approach — which produces shorter and steeper scars — reinforcing the need to choose and standardize the method according to the purpose of the inventory.
