The article presents a conceptual review of sediment connectivity — the transfer of sediment between different landscape compartments through the relationships among their components — discussing its hydrological and sedimentological interactions controlled by geomorphological attributes. The authors note that most existing methods assess structural (geomorphological) connectivity, with more recent approaches incorporating the functional (hydrological) dimension and its time dependence, although few consider the characteristics of the sediment itself. Given the scarcity of Brazilian studies on the topic, the article argues that understanding sediment connectivity requires integrating geomorphology, hydrology and sedimentology, positioning the concept as a valuable tool for watershed management.
