PMRR Niterói

The Municipal Risk Reduction Plan for priority areas of the municipality of Niterói (PMRR) is a public management instrument for the strategic planning of disaster risk reduction and mitigation actions, mainly for landslides.

The PMRR seeks to establish guidelines for preventive and mitigating risk actions, but not only that. Its multi-centric development, bringing together different organizational levels of government, universities, and the active contribution of at-risk communities, points to an innovative and integrated path that brings a more equitable relationship with the population and is more effective in terms of prevention and self-protection.

The active participation of the community, contributing their perceptions and collaboration, as well as empowering people regarding the information and actions arising from the PMRR, are fundamental premises of this project’s development.

The PMRR is developed by the GRAPHID-UFF research group, in collaboration with the Niterói City Hall, and funded by the federal government through the National Secretariat for Peripheries (MCID).
