The study assesses whether one-dimensional infiltration models can reproduce soil moisture variations on landslide-prone hillslopes in Petrópolis (RJ), simulating soil water dynamics with the Hydrus-1D model calibrated and validated against in situ moisture measurements. The results show that, at the time scale of rainfall events capable of triggering landslides, one-dimensional modeling adequately represents soil moisture dynamics when calibrated with measured data, whereas simulations based on pedotransfer functions to estimate soil hydraulic parameters showed limited ability to reproduce actual soil behavior.
